SUPERFOOD FOR YOUR NAILS
Nails Inc has been around for fifteen years. It was founded by Thea Green on the concept that whenever you wanted to get your nails done you had to go to a salon and, as the typical businesswoman working in the city, she [Green] didn’t have time for that. All she had was fifteen minutes. So, she created the Express Manicure — quick shape, cuticles pushed back and paint — in and out in literally fifteen minutes. That’s where Nails Inc started, strictly services. Now, Thea had a serious passion for fashion [her background is in fashion editorial] and she combined her two interests by creating polishes that went with the colours of the season. The company has always been very in tune with what’s going on in fashion, collaborating with names like Victoria Beckham, Cara Delevingne and Alexa Chung.
Recently, the company started to look at nails in terms of aftercare and treatment and that’s how NailKale was born. Products include supplements and superfoods like kale, bee pollen, vitamin E, lavender. It was all about ingredients that look after your nails for the customer who wants to treat their nails on the go and doesn’t have time for a full salon manicure. Just like the move towards makeup with skincare benefits, NailKale is all about amazing, on trend colours that care for your nails. The base coat is fantastic. It’s perfect for the customer that always gets gel or whose nails tend to split. You can use it as a treatment as well by applying for five days consecutively. As the line develops, Nails Inc is moving in the direction of introducing more and more superfoods, from matcha and pomegranate to almond milk and acai, in more and more colours.
As told to Daniela by Lani Ton-nu, Area Manager for Nails Inc, Central London and regular rider at both Mortimer Street and Canary Wharf…
I decided I had to see for myself. So, I popped down to Debenhams and gave the Express Manicure a go. The whole experience was extremely efficient but still elevated by the obvious quality of the products. No corners were cut; I had the whole line of colours available to me and the nail technician did not seem rushed at all. She shaped my nails beautifully, painted them using products from the NailKale line and used a quick drying top coat so I was back at the Studio in no time. A great little bonus with this service is you can opt to pay slightly more and keep the nail polish that you’ve chosen. This makes for easy touch ups (though I didn’t have any chipping for 3-4 days, which, for me, is a record between putting away the shoes and setting people up on those bikes). All in all, I was very impressed.
Until I tried Nails Inc polishes, I thought all nail polish brands were pretty interchangeable and based my choice purely on colour. Everything about Nails Inc is so intentional, from the design of the pot and the brush to the formula of the polish itself. Now, I think it’s too soon to tell if I’ve received any benefits from the NailKale (I’ve only been using the polishes for the last few weeks but so far, so good). For me, the real unsung heroes have been the brush shape and the cuticle oil. The brush is fatter and flatter than nail polish brushes I’ve come across in the past and this makes smooth, even application easy as pie, especially for someone with shaky hands like me. Similarly, the design of the cuticle oil in a pen (almost like a Stila lip gloss or the YSL Touch Éclat) is a game-changer - no muss, no fuss, just a quick swipe morning and night.
There are Nails Inc counters within a five minute walk of both the Mortimer Street and Canary Wharf studio so you have no excuse not to check them out after your ride.
