Pears are one of my favourite autumn fruits, and they're packed with phytonutrients, vitamins & minerals. The skins of pears contain an incredibly high amount of phenolic acids & flavanoids - the antioxidants that are best known in relation to cancer prevention due to their anti-oxidant and immune supportive activity. Flavanoids have also been shown to improve insulin sensitivity to help blood sugar regulation, so combined with their high fibre content, pears are a great choice for blood sugar regulation.
You need to use really ripe pears for this smoothie - hard or unripened pears can be tart, astringent or bitter. You can also use stewed or baked pears.
