THE POST-WORKOUT GLOW

A How-To By Viola Levy

After giving it your all in class, there’s nothing more satisfying than seeing the proof in your flushed, sweat-drenched skin. But appearing red-faced, dehydrated (and possibly tired from a 7AM workout) may not be the look you’re aiming for, especially if you’re heading off somewhere else after class. So how do you perfect that post-workout glow?

Drink lots of water during and after your class

A no-brainer this one, but so many of us still think that drinking water during a workout is enough – but it’s our skin that pays the price, in the form of dull complexions, blemishes and dark circles. Our bodies lose copious amounts of fluid as we sweat, so even after you’ve hopped off the bike, you still need to be knocking back that h20 throughout the day to keep your skin radiant and healthy (plus there’s all the other detoxing and energising benefits that come with staying hydrated).

Invest in ‘secret weapon’ skincare

A post-workout cleanse is vital to get rid of all the dirt and debris you’ve sweated out before it settles back into the skin and wreaks havoc. But if you haven’t got time (or gym bag space) for a full skincare routine, Alpha H Instant Facial is a clever multi-tasker that ticks a lot of boxes. It contains glycolic acid, a mild chemical exfoliator that helps clear away dead skin cells and other debris – as well as other extracts including thyme and arnica flowers to brighten, hydrate and reduces redness. Another great product to pep up tired-looking skin is MV Organics Instant Revival Booster (a big hit among Hollywood’s elite) which uses Ayurvedic ingredients like centella and avocado oil to revitalise and reduce inflammation and deliver an intense shot of hydration in the bargain.

Lighten up

Radiance-boosting base products with good coverage are essential for post-workout lobster-hued skin. Charlotte Tilbury’s Light Wonder Foundation walks that tricky line between good coverage and a light formula, creating a luminous glow with anti-aging botanicals to boot. And for lighter coverage as the weather gets warmer, there’s Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint that delivers a gorgeous dewy finish as well as a non-chemical SPF20.

Add some colour and shine

If you’re suffering from a dull lacklustre or uneven complexion, an injection of colour can make a world of difference. If you’re rushing to get from your workout to the office, you can save time by applying certain products the night before. St Tropez’s Self Tan Luxe Facial Oil will give your skin a subtle glow that develops while you sleep. You can enhance the effect further with Tom Ford’s latest purse-friendly compact duo Shade and Illuminate. Dab the creamy iridescent bronzer in an ‘E’ and ‘3’ shape each side of your face along the temples, cheeks and jawline, followed by the highlighter which - gently blended along the cheek bones - will leave you with a dewy texture worthy of the red carpet.
