Top tips to feel your best

There’s nothing like the British summertime, but let’s be honest, it’s not exactly lasting. That’s why it’s so important to make the most of it. See the summer through looking and feeling your best with our super simple health hacks that anyone can do.

1 Change up your hydration game

Dehydration during the summer can be an issue, especially if you like to get a sweat on. While we sweat more when the temperature rises, many of us don’t counterbalance this by increasing our water intake.

Whether it’s treating yourself to a nice new reusable water bottle or infusing your water with fresh fruit, find a way to get some more fluids in you. Try to make a mental note of just how sweaty you’re getting compared to normal and drink up accordingly.

2 Upgrade your diet

Treating yourself is a must now and then, and depriving yourself of your favourite foods will only leave you feeling miserable. But when it comes to your indulgences, it’s worth choosing wisely to ensure the way your body responds doesn’t get in the way of you feeling your best.

No one likes feeling sluggish or bloated, so steer clear of foods that you know give you these unwanted reactions. Consider potential intolerances to common ingredients like dairy, gluten or soy. Free-from foods are so widely available these days - it may be time to broaden your horizons.

3 Prioritise your workouts

Summer plans build up super quick once the sun’s out. With your diary filling up fast with social events, it’s easy for workouts to take a backseat while we enjoy ourselves. Whatever plans you make this summer, don’t forget that staying active will help you enjoy everything that little bit more.

Squeezing in that morning yoga session, going on that bike ride or smashing up a HIIT session will give you that endorphin rush you know and love, put you in a good mood and give you that catharsis that we sometimes take for granted. Making time for your workout means making time for YOU.

4 Keep your stress in check

High stress levels will do you no favours if you have any plans at all to feel your best this summer. Not only can stress contribute to weight gain, negatively impact gym results and wreak havoc with your skin; but it can also be bad news for your immune system, leaving you feeling under the weather.

To make sure you’re feeling your best self all summer long, make sure you’re getting a good amount of sleep each night, you’re not over-training and you’re allowing yourself adequate recovery from gym sessions. Yoga, meditation and mindfulness apps can also help to keep stress at bay.

5 Wear sunscreen

Opportunities to top up your tan are few and far between in the UK, so it does always seem tempting to bask in the sun sans sunscreen to get that summer glow looking its best. But slapping on the sunscreen shouldn’t be skipped - it helps to prevent premature ageing of the skin, it reduces the risk of skin cancer and, of course, it protects you from sunburn (which we’re assuming is hardly the look you’re going for this summer).

Opt for a sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher, and don’t forget to reapply every hour or so, or moreso during especially sunny periods.
